New on 500px : Monumental Arch, Palmyra, Syria. by Nick___ by Nick___

On Getty Images
Palmyra was captured by Islamic State in May 2015 and militants booby-trapped the arch some time later. On 4 October it was reported that the arch had been blown up using dynamite. Footage released on 8 October showed that half of the structure was still standing but by the time of the recapture of Palmyra by the Syrian Army in March 2016, very little of the arch remained standing.

Before the Syrian conflict started in 2011, more than 150,000 tourists visited the city of Palmyra every year.

New on 500px : Sand-grains by mreyfman by mreyfman

Two hard-core dune hikers are looking like sand-grains on top of the huge sand-dune. This dune is one of the tallest in the Sosusvlei area. It’s the second big dune looking toward South-West from Deadvlei and could be reached after climbing Big Daddy dune by more or less flat hike on the dune spines. Aerial capture.
Our next Namibia workshop is planned for early May 2017. Please drop me a line here if you are interested or follow me on Facebook for latest updates and photos.
